Seoul, capital and the largest city at the same time, is classified as a Special City, while the next 6 largest cities are classified as Metropolitan Cities. Provinces of South Korea

South Korea is divided into 9 provinces called 'Do' and 7 urban units of the same level, Special and Metropolitan cities as previously mentionaed. These are further subdivided into a variety of smaller entities, including cities 'si', counties 'gun', wards 'gu', towns 'eup', districts 'myeon', neighborhoods 'dong' and villages 'ri'.
